"Family" at the 33rd FFC

Many of our films this year focus on the family - and yet they are completely different. From drama to sci-fi to thriller, these films are real highlights in our programme!

Tamara (Jonas Ludwig Walter DE, 2023, 97 Min)

At some point Tamara left – away from her East German home village, away from her parents who had settled into their nostalgia. But when her parents also have to move away, new stories emerge and Tamara has to reposition herself – between her origins, grief and the future.

Clara (Sabin Dorohoi RO/DE, 2023, 85 Min)

A young Romanian woman leaves her homeland and her child to earn money in Germany – by looking after the daughter of a German family. An exemplary Eastern European biography: Clara becomes the mother of two children, one in this foreign country, one, painfully neglected, at home. A film about the losses that migrant workers and their families suffer, but also their wishes and longings.

Child Machine (Rain Rannu EE, 2022, 93 Min)

Because 9-year-old Alex doesn't feel like being abstinent from the internet during the holidays, she runs off in the middle of the back-to-nature vacation in search of reception, leaves her helicopter parents alone in digital detox – and lands in a Second World War bunker. There, a handful of computer nerds are secretly working to become number one in the global AI market. Original genre variation with elements of sci-fi and adventure films.

Invalid (Jonáš Karásek SK, 2023, 106 Min)

The wild 1990s in Slovakia: The hotheaded Laco tries to make amends for a family argument. Unfortunately, he falls in with the mafia, who rip him off and almost kill him. The Rom Gabo finally saves him, and together the two of them forge out a crazy plan for revenge. Crazy comedy with two pretty best friends, lots of dark humor and a showdown in the National Museum.
