Trailer
The filmmakers describe the movie as the ultimate mix between Monty Python, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Les Misérables. These titles don't seem to go together at all at first glance, but that's the idea behind the film, which oozes goofiness, quirkiness, and crude humor. Fake blood flows like water, sawed-off limbs fly into the air, villains snack on their victims' fingers. And in the midst of all this bloody buffoonery, characters, including the Chainsaw Killer, suddenly start singing about their feelings or suffering. CHAINSAWS WERE SINGING is a true return to the roots of B-movies, to the films of Troma Studios, the early work of Roger Corman, Peter Jackson and Robert Rodriguez. Debutant director Sander Maran clearly considers himself their heir and continuer of the tradition of filmmaking independent not only of big budgets and producer control, but also of any narrative, logical or ethical constraints. Every frame of this insane slasher film reflects his incredible love for cinema as an art in which anything, absolutely anything is possible.
