It is also the differences between the young men that make this friendship amusing and authentic at the same time. Bosti, a sorrowful, brooding individual, Nace, a drummer in need of harmony, the wisecracking macho Jon and Sreco, the introverted Polaroid photographer. It is the latter who not entirely willingly, and secretly, brings the forbidden goods along, thus attracting the attentions of a mysterious pursuer who is hot on their heels. On empty streets, in the midst of broad fields and in the golden light of the sunset, they strive for freedom and realise, in doing so, that they must escape their own inner shackles. Inspired by a similar excursion of his own, screenwriter and director Žiga Kukovič tells in this, his feature film debut, an atmospherically stirring tale, one rich in situational comedy which occasionally takes aim at its own male romanticism without, in the process, completely abandoning a sense seriousness. Kukovič and Robert Kladnik, both known as social media stars in Slovenia, began independently producing GEPACK in 2022 after failed attempts at obtaining funding.
