Special approaches for special perspectives!

In the MIDNIGHT MADNESS series, crazy genre crossovers full of deeper meaning make their way to Cottbus; these range from thriller to action, and spectacle to highly unconventional crossovers. The artistic and thematic breadth attained by female directors from the Czech Republic is showcased in THE FEMALE GAZE: New Czech films by female directors with its 12 works, ranging from feature films and documentaries to short films. MIOB IN SHORTS finds it continuation this year as a short film marathon, put together by a network of seven European film festivals. With GENERATION 1.5, the Jewish Film Festival Berlin Brandenburg presents perspectives on the ambivalent situation that immigrants from the former Soviet Union to Israel find themselves in, whilst in cooperation with the German Culture Forum for Central and Eastern Europe we explore, in a year that marks the centenary of Kafka’s death, the relationship between reality and imagination in the reception of the Czech-German-Jewish literary legend in FRANZ KAFKA – LOST IN FAME. Two medium-length films examine the realities of life of young women caught between war and exile from Ukraine whilst Oscar winner Danis Tanović explores love, life, passion and politics on a Croatian Adriatic island in his latest film, the opening film of this year’s FFC, MY LATE SUMMER. And last but not least: this year's festival trailer, shown at the beginning of every screening which, in keeping with tradition, comes from students of the KONRAD WOLF Film University of Babelsberg.
