Trailer
The genre of the teen angst films is usually dedicated to growing up and problems with parents, school and puberty. The nine young protagonists and film-makers of this film project have to deal with completely different problems however - they come from Ukraine and either live in a war zone or have to deal with the consequences of war. In the film, 16-20 year olds - Nastya Bebee, Yelyzaveta Chornomorets, Oleksandra Dolobovska, Ksenia Ilyina, Kamila Karpenko, Hanna Krutikova, Alieksandra (Alexa) Luchaieva, Sofiia Orudzheva and Anna Smyrnova – offer insight into their war-shaped existences in a manner at once intimate, personal, radical and honest. Their contributions speak of a search for security and contentment, for everyday life and hope. Yet how are they to care for themselves when fear for family and their fellow countrymen, death, separation and trauma are omnipresent?
Director Inga Pylypchuk lives in Berlin. Her film HOW FAR IS CLOSE featured at the FFC in 2023 in the Spotlight: Ukraine section.
