CROSSING THE BLUE

CROSSING THE BLUE

Victoria Aleksanyan
AM/NL, 2022, 13 Min

Anoush left her Armenian homeland years ago to flee from her abusive husband. Now she is facing deportation. A pressure-laden look at the past, uncertain glances into the future, between the coldness of the moment and the emotional ups and downs of an ambivalent life experience.

Anoush leaves her son behind. This, like much else in this film, can be guessed at. A work rich in allusions that are cleverly packaged in a minimalist cinematic approach – what has come to pass, what does the future hold in store? A portrait of self-discovery induced from without. Ultimately, we believe we know more about this person, caught here between her inner worlds, than she does herself.
