Trailer
The conversations of the two men, who drive their Lada across the breathtaking wintry landscapes, revolve around soldiers, military service, and abandoned villages: the war with Azerbaijan is just as omnipresent here as the genocide of 1915. They also reflect on the more peaceful Soviet period and who the land they are currently traversing actually belongs to. Here, whilst two enemy countries pursue their territorial interests, international corporations pursue those of a more economic nature. Kötter: “Landshaft depicts the psychogeography of a geopolitically charged landscape and its inhabitants caught between extractivism, war and expulsion. Taking the form of a journey across eastern Armenia, the film accompanies human and non-human actors as they traverse a landscape, from Lake Sevan to the Sotk gold mine, the latter under Azerbaijani occupation since the Karabakh war of 2020."
