Planetarium

In the space flight planetarium "Juri Gagarin" in Cottbus, the FilmFestival shows the fulldome program. The dome of the planetarium becomes a spectacular cinema screen and offers a very special cinema experience.

The planetarium in Cottbus was named after Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin, the first man in space, and opened on April 26, 1974, after nearly two years of construction on what is now Lindenplatz.

The domed hall serves as a projection room, similar to a movie theater. Here, projections are made into the hemispherical dome. This often gives the visitor the impression of being right in the middle of the action. Planetariums are mainly used to show the starry sky, regardless of the weather and time of day.

Modern planetariums like the one in Cottbus also have a so-called video fulldome projection system. Thus, the star projector can be used alone, it can be supplemented by the video projection, e.g. to show constellations or distant cosmic objects, but the fulldome system also allows specially produced films to be shown in 360° mode in the dome.

Accessibility: the planetarium is completely barrier-free. An elevator is in place.
