At the boarding school Ahmet is supposed to learn Muslim values and yet he doesn’t feel at home in the religious environment. While struggling to fulfil his father's expectations, he finds a friendship in classmate Hakan that borders on love. Together they dream of making decisions for themselves and breaking free from the strict rules. In his debut film, Nehir Tuna skilfully weaves personal memories with the story of a boy who tries to find his place between two antagonistic world views. Employing an impressive black-and-white aesthetic, the film portrays Ahmet's struggle for self-determination and belonging in a society characterised by the struggle between religious and secular Turks - Ahmet comes under pressure from all sides.

Nehir Tuna - NEHIR TUNA’s work combines social commentaryand an original visual aesthetic, tackling stories onTurkey’s complex present-day issues, be it masculinity or conservatism. A Sundance Alumni, Tuna was selected to take part in 2019 Sundance Screenwriters Lab and 2020 Directors and Screenwriters Lab. He participated in the 2018 Nipkow film residency program. He has written and directed seven shortfilms, including THE SHOES, a prequel to YURT (DORMITORY). Tuna studied at Columbia University’s Graduate Film Program and holds an MFA in directing from Rochester Institute of Technology.
