Opened October 4th in 1911 the Weltspiegel is one of the few film theatres of its time which are still in use. Thanks to well-considered construction works the Weltspiegel could remain very far to its original state. That is why the building also today impresses with its unique architecture. Back then the beautiful cinema offered place for up to 780 people. Since 1929 the now listed building has been considered as one of the most beautiful cinemas throughout the region.
Required safety works and renovations had to be done recently last year. Assuming to approach the original state as good as possible, the restorers concentrated on the façade, the entrance area, the Eastern Art Nouveau staircase and the Great Hall. The reconstruction of the old building already has been completed, the annexe shall be finished on time for the 100th jubilee of the Weltspiegel.
With the completion of the renovations there will be given place for 500 visitors in the large hall, the two smaller halls offer space for 80 people each. Since the ceremonial reopening of the historic movie theater on May 31st 2011, friends of movies can watch the current cinema program in the Great Hall.
By combining the already outstanding acoustics with the latest 3D digital projection and satellite technology, the Weltspiegel is an exceptional venue for events of all kinds. Besides movies, visitors can enjoy both national and international shows in real time.
