Weltspiegel Großer Saal

Weltspiegel Abend ARCON 2011

The Filmtheater Weltspiegel in Cottbus is the oldest purpose-built cinema in Brandenburg.

Commissioned as a new building in October 1911, the Weltspiegel Filmtheatre is a listed building in its entirety. Despite the usual redesign mania that set in after the Second World War on the territory of the former GDR for public buildings of the imperial era, the Weltspiegel has been spared from this practice. The convex portal with its decorative elements of rams' heads, putti and protruding façade ornaments conveys the building's outstanding significance. Inside, the Art Nouveau staircase decorated with rosé marble is particularly well preserved. The hall with its beautiful fully leaf-gilded coffered ceiling (painted over) and the sweeping tier bear witness to the emerging, luxurious furnishings at the beginning of the last century.

With the completion of the reconstruction, there is room for 500 visitors in the large hall, the two small halls offer capacities of 80 seats each.
