WATERDROP is a gripping psychological drama that dives deep into the murky waters of moral and societal corruption. Having herself been swept up by the one-hand-washes-the-other system in her small town on picturesque Lake Ohrid, she is now on the brink of a fall: her sixteen-year-old son is suddenly accused of raping his classmate. She quickly realizes that the system she has benefited from knows no morals, consideration or justice. The film shifts its focus from the act of rape to the systemic response—or blatant lack thereof—from the authorities and media. Inspired by a real event that shocked Albania in 2019:

DIRECTOR'S NOTES:  "Waterdrop is a film about family, hypocrisy, moral corruption, truth and justice. In February 2019 a teenage girl was raped by her peers in a small city in Albania. All the institutions and the media kept silent. The city concealed the event to avoid its reputation being tarnished. I didn’t want to make a film about rape, but to explore the causes of this heinous crime." (Quote)

Budina's film is not just a story about personal downfall; it’s an intense exploration of the pervasive hypocrisy within societal structures. Through its complex moral dilemmas and intense storytelling, WATERDROP challenges viewers to reflect on the true value of justice in a world where power often dictates what is ‚true‘.
