the lives of six people become dramatically intertwined. Among them is a father whose son sends a life-threatening wish to Santa Claus, an actress who struggles to justify her participation in a propaganda show, and a student who is planning his escape - they all face life-changing decisions. Behind closed doors, however, it’s not only private conflicts that simmer, but also fear of the omnipresent Securitate. Employing a style reminiscent of the Romanian New Wave, which at the beginning of the 2000s drew on authentic everyday discourse to pinpoint social fissures and thus made waves on the international festival landscape – one that is nevertheless innovative, and features just the right amount of dark humour, Bogdan Mureşanu offers up here the portrait of a nation that, without realising it, finds itself on the verge of supposed freedom.
