Performance
Árni, a young, shy man, is in the middle of it all and yet doesn't belong. The circus itself has seen better days. The poodles are old and drained of energy, the posters are peeling from the walls and the faces of the artists are worn out and furrowed, not unlike those of the villagers in the gloomy landscape that surrounds them. Alcohol, fleeting sex and fake joviality contrast with a monotonous everyday existence of hard work. When the circus one day acquires a python, no one knows what to do with the giant snake at first. Árni however senses a chance to grab the spotlight for himself. A poetic snapshot captured in scenes at once calm and atmospherically dense. And also a picturesque portrait of both a landscape and a soul, one sponsored by the Venice Biennale, unmistakably influenced by Bela Tarr and Ulrich Seidel.

Dorka Vermes - Dorka Vermes studied literature and film history at ELTE University in Budapest. She completed her MA studies in film directing, that she started at the University of Film and Theatre of Budapest, and finished in the joint programme of FreeSzfe Association and Filmakademie Wien.
Dorka’s previous short film, Alba Vulva was selected to be premiered at the competition of Sarajevo International Film Festival and received the Arte Award of the Filmschoolfest München. Dorka’s first feature, Árni, premiered in the Venice Film Festival and went on to several prestigious international festivals too. She’s preparing her second feature as a Hungarian-German co-production.
