Kazakhstan in the 1930s. As a result of Stalinist enforcement measures, a brutal famine occurs that kills millions. The gravedigger Isatai goes through a wreckful journey with the younger Alim and the older Tepe through the vast steppe towards a city that Isatai hopes will bring salvation. At first the three of them work together. But over time, Isatai begins to harbor terrible suspicions about the mysterious Tepe. Fear and mistrust turn their journey into a battle for life and death. After successful collaborations with Travis Scott, 21 Savage and Offset, Aisultan Seitov dedicates himself to the great national trauma of his country. He skillfully fuses mythical elements with the stylistic devices of experimental film and thereby uses his unique visual flair to create a portrait of moral decay.
