Young Count Ernö loses his father during the Hungarian Revolution of 1848 due to the betrayal of an Austrian acquaintance. More than twenty years later the youngster is able to gain possession of unconventional race horse Kincsem ("my precious") from the daughter of his father's once rival, with the horse subsequently becoming a sporting sensation. This, however, soon incites envy...
Herendi's entertaining costume drama, interspersed with special effects, features a number of pleasing anachronistic details. The plot itself is relatively straightforward, whilst the cast is remarkable for the fact that many of the key members, such as Ervin Nagy, familiar to audiences from his role in TESTRŐL ÉS LÉLEKRŐL/ON BODY AND SOUL (2017), have their roots in art house film. KINCSEM cost 3 million Forint to produce, equivalent to approximately 10 million Euros, and has attracted upwards of 430,000 viewers domestically whilst simultaneously making its way to foreign markets such as China and South Korea.
