The pilgrimage site Maris Stock can be found in the midst of a desolate landscape, and it's here than Milan and Hilda encounter one another. He's there to spend three weeks helping out with the restoration of the baroque church which has long fallen into disrepair. She lives in the local village, generally in silence, encapsulated in a world of her own together with her father, who is unable to overcome the loss of his wife. Jan Březina's FAMU dissertation film speaks a language of suggestive imagery and hushed autumn tones. A poetic, intimate portrait that develops a mysterious atmosphere as well as an unexpected tension from which it's difficult to escape.
