We Will Stay Here
A small family crosses the now deserted border point at Drewitz: the national emblem has been dismounted, whilst the border fences are in an obvious state of disrepair. In the spring of 1990 the GDR no longer exists. The family of three wants to stay in newly reunited Germany, yet the future remains uncertain: their original work contracts meanwhile worth nothing more than wastepaper, these former so-called contract workers are now left to their own devices. They struggle to obtain right of residence from the authorities, experiencing resistance and setbacks in the process, not to mention right-wing violence. Though Helmut Kohl might triumphantly declare to the TV cameras that "we Germans have learnt from the past", this family fears for its future.
A calm, compassionate tale of a Vietnamese family, as well as an important contemporary document from the time of transition. WMH

Dirk Otto - Since studying directing at the Filmhochschule “Konrad Wolf” in Potsdam-Babelsberg he worked as director for the DEFA-Studio Babelsberg and rolled numerous feature and TV films of different genres. In 1992 he started to work for several production companies. Since 1998 he is also working as a producer.
