Isa's fears are stoked by rumours of a spine-chilling tale concerning a Sudeten German, who is supposed to have tortured women in the basement of the building the participants are housed in. In fact the narrative fits in well with the hauntingly beautiful mountainous region, which the camera often takes in from a bird's eye view. Isa has more on her mind than the aforementioned tale however, namely enigmatic therapist Einar, for whom "there is a fine line between good and evil". The youngster suspects her mother is romantically involved with him. Could he even be her father? Isa's emotional turmoil is heightened by first sexual experiences with the playful kitchen assistant, the only bright spot in this madhouse full of grown-ups.
Full of fantasy and insinuations, the conflict inexorably heads towards its climax, as Isa starts to lose herself between nightmare and reality. Only a detective inspector, played by the legendary Mirosław Baka, exudes confidence. Justifiably so? JG
