Whilst their classmates spend their holidays in exotic foreign climes, the film's protagonists are left in the care of their grandparents in a village in the middle-of-nowhere. Timur forms a troop with the intention of helping the village elderly, without actually having a true appreciation of just how much the latter require the help of their grandchildren. The truth is that the village has been scheduled for demolition to make way for a rehabilitation centre.
A well-staged story with personable characters, most notably Timur, who heads the narrative with charm and wit. Much more than a visual ode to life in the countryside, the film also emphasises the function and meaning of family ties with a view that stretches beyond merely our parents' generation. AB
