Niki stands in his father's shadow, and justifiably so, since his father once killed a dragon. The youngster and his new friend Eddi, a bat, suddenly and involuntarily end up in another world via a magical door. There Nicky learns that the dragon, hitherto presumed dead, has in fact gained new powers thanks to witchcraft. In order to break free Nicky needs to find a fire flower, as his chance to become a hero in his own right finally arrives.
A colourful, high-spirited animated film featuring benevolent and wholehearted characters and a number of references to Russian folklore as the bogatyri, medieval East Slavic legends, are vividly brought back to life. AB
