It's back to the east for Miki, the son of a Hungarian diplomat who in 1967, after four years in the United States, has to return to his communist homeland. His old schoolmates are baffled: the self-assured Miki arrives at school in Hawaii shirts, loves rock 'n' roll music and livens up the everyday greyness. That's not to mention that he also makes music himself. He quickly becomes something of a heart-throb, making himself quite unpopular among his comrades in the process. The social position of his parents could well take a sudden fall if Miki can't learn to play by the socialist rules. Alas, before he can have any hopes of a music career he has to prove himself at a talent show. The party has in fact long decided who the winner will be, but "rock 'n' roll will never die", not even in the Hungary of 1967. Thus things turn out differently than planned and the rest is (Hungarian music) history...
This lively music film about a popular sixties rock 'n' roll band that, in the otherwise miserable communist times after the suppressed revolution had the youth in raptures was positively received by the Hungarian public. Already within a week this SONNENALLEE-like film from the director Gergely Fonyó found itself at the top of the national film charts. The scenes featuring girls from the GDR who initially appear simple and narrow-minded before then really letting their hair down are particularly amusing. With this, his fifth feature film, the director again proves his outstanding sense for popular stories.
