A monotonous job with an insurance company, the bathroom is a building site, the tilers have made off with the deposit and the wife hardly speaks to him anymore: Tadas' outwardly perfect life has hit a dead end. This changes however when an old schoolfriend shows up. Though he takes an interest in the refurbishments, Linas is equally keen on introducing Tadas to "night driving", which works like this: never put more than two litres of petrol in the car at any one stop, try to see where the night takes you and occasionally hold your breath and turn the lights off. "Like restarting a computer after it's crashed" explains Linas to his friend, who slowly takes a shine to the strange ritual. In particular the thrill of the joint elk tests on ice bring long suppressed emotions to the surface. The adventure takes a shocking turn for Tadas however when one evening Linas invites a woman at the roadside to join them on their nightly spin that turns out to be his wife. Thus with dimmed lights they drive off into a dark piece of woodland, searching life they lost in the light of day.
Miškinis has created an urban road movie full of atmosphere, adventure and sensual undertones. The end result is a parable on the longings for a fresh start typical of the urban middle-classes.
