UNIVERSALOVE

Love is forever occurring, all over the world: crazy, stubborn, unexpected and true love that transcends borders and moves mountains. Take the young woman in Marseille on her moped, competing for the love of a migrant, or the bashful guy in Tokyo, the object of whose unfulfilled longings toils away in a soup kitchen without ever noticing him. A jealous taxi driver in Brooklyn is tormented by his fantasies, whilst in Rio a girl from the favelas manages to unnerve a soap star with a simple kiss. In Belgrade a young couple struggles to keep their relationship alive and existence intact, in a Luxembourg swimming pool a well-to-do business man discovers his true feelings towards a young man. For each and everyone of these individuals these feelings of love, desire and disappointment are unique, when in fact exactly the same thing is occurring all the time, in a million different places, time and again, always indescribable, never the same. In somewhat of a cinematic experiment, the soundtrack for UNIVERSALOVE was especially produced by the Austrian indie-rock band Naked Lunch. The result is a drifting, often melancholic sound that seems to find the perfect motif for every character and mood of the film. Similarly Thomas Woschitz's imagery seeks to capture the specific in a universal everyday life whose protagonists, though searching for love in different ways, are in the process driven by similar passions, doubts and fears.
