The village of Święty Krzyż has as little a historical heritage as that of Zbyszek’s family tree. His father, a simple peasant, has failed not only in his attempt to overcome the crippling conditions of the eastern Polish countryside, but also in his dream of becoming a self-taught scholar. Zbyszek dreams of leaving the narrow confines of the village, only to stumble time and again into the wrong company.
A biting temporary snapshot of a provincial life characterised by double moral standards, hooliganism, bigotry and washed-up dreams, which consciously broaches a number of delicate issues surrounding Poland’s search for national identity.
