2008. The Belarusian government has just approved the construction of a new nuclear power station. Three painters rent a sailing boat on the river Pripyat in order to explore the heavily contaminated region surrounding Chernobyl. In the last populated areas they encounter before reaching the “zone” the three come across unsuspecting youths bathing in contaminated waters and showy villas of the nouveau-riche. A few kilometres further on begins the “Belarusian Atlantis”: abandoned houses, difficult to identify under the cover of the ubiquitous lush vegetation.
A multifaceted reflection on art and catastrophe, as well as an attempt to comprehend the irrevocable destruction of a human living environment.
