The young Romanian immigrant Luminiţa is waiting for a residence permit, so that she might remain in Italy legally. At the moment she keeps her head above water by pickpocketing and minor raids on local hospitals. In the inhospitable Turin suburbs – neither city, nor countryside, but haphazard urban sprawl – she encounters the ageing and seriously ill scrap merchant Antonio. Two outsiders, disappointed with life, both helpless in his/her own way.
A subdued, pessimistic parable on doubt as a way of life and the stagnancy of interpersonal relations in the age of globalisation.
