An abandoned village in eastern Germany, soon to be swallowed up by the coal mining industry. Anna makes a return home with her boyfriend Stefan, where they not only encounter her ex-boyfriend Stefan and his scheming new partner, but are also confronted by long-forgotten accusations and personal traumata. NACHTHELLE is an anti-feel-good film whose fragile power unfolds predominantly in the final third of the film, when the implied psychological breaking points come to the surface and infect the aesthetic and temporal structure of the film.
