In a picturesque coastal town fourteen-year-old Kolya comes under the spell of prostitute Nyurka, who gives the youngster her attentions for the whole summer. The imagery, seemingly bathed in warm light, introduces the viewer to the red-haired protagonist, a number of eccentric individuals and a Tatra cable car, which steadfastly proceeds at full speed; in Nana Djordjadze's signature style the film-within-a-film develops its own inexorable effect. MY MERMAID, MY LORELEI is at the same time also a declaration of love to Odessa; This Ukrainian-Russian co-production was shot in the Black Sea port city and celebrated its début screening at this year's Odessa Film Festival.
