Both women are affected by the coal-mine, yet whilst one of them admires the wonderful machines, the other hears our planet's laments in the overwhelming hum that emanates from the mining excavators. In principle the two protagonists have a lot in common; shaped by a childhood spent in a mining community, they're well-educated and share similar interests. By giving both parties the opportunity to make their views heard, the film highlights the chasm that not only divides northern Bohemia, but also individual families. GL
