A woman's mutilated body is discovered at a waste dump on the outskirts of town. Thus a battle-hardened detective from the eccentric, rough-around-the-edges town of Orleans sets off on the hunt of a killer.
Before long a mysterious a hangman appears on the scene, and proceeds to sneak around this small town, located on a salt lake in the Altai Republic, and bring forward apparent evidence from which none of the locals are spared; they all have a skeleton in the cupboard here, from hairdresser Lida to local surgeon Rudolph. Andrey Proshkin's grotesque comedy is characterised by an outlandish complexity à la Tarantino, coupled with the question of individual guilt and atonement. Could we be looking at a metaphor for contemporary Russian society? MM
