Made in 1931, the film is part of the Soviet Union’s first anti-religion campaign, praising the new Soviet way of life both in the kolkhoz and in factories that offers women the chance for an independent life.

A crowd approaches a mosque; among them, Tursun and his childless wife Hakima. They seek Imam Abdu-Nabi’s blessing so they may have a child. He performs a “miracle” by raping Hakima, who soon has a daughter, Oinasa.

Twenty years later, the Soviet era. Abdu-Nabi visits Tursun’s village and sets his eyes on the beautiful Oinasa. To protect the girl, Hakima sends her to a textile factory. Abdu-Nabi demands Hakima’s death, but she tells the truth and the people realise the lie of religion. BiB

Oleg Frelikh - born 1887 in Moscow, Russia. He started his career as an actor, e. g. in MINARET SMERTI (1925). Since the mid-1920s, he worked as a director for different Soviet film studios as well as from 1943-1951 at the Lenkom Theatre in Moscow. He died 1953.
