Free Spaces

Luxembourg, Austria, 2015, 60 Min

Four East European capital cities, four attempts at recapturing public space. Whether in Tbilisi, Yerevan, Chișinău or Kiev, FREE SPACES challenges post-Soviet commerce with civil society revolt.

Amour Fou Luxembourg

Economists refers to the transition of Eastern Europe from communism to a free market economy as a transformation. The artists/citizens featured here attempt to regain their cities from these utopia-free theoreticians with wit and creativity. A cinema is occupied, an abandoned Soviet-era circus is brought back to life and public space is overwhelmed by a chorus of horns, as a series of performances puts the theory of civil revolt into practice.
