Having lived through traumatic times Anna seeks comfort in a nunnery. However the Mother Superior together with the newly-appointed, charismatic Father Franciszek introduce a series of unconvential rituals, by means of which Anna and her fellow nuns are to be forced into a form of emotional dependence on God and the nunnery leadership. Behind the thriller-like production a parable about religious delusion, demagogy and the manipulation of the process of coming-of-age for higher purposes evolves. An enthralling psychodrama from a renowned TV- and film director, based on a true story.

Barbara Sass - born 1936 in Lódz, Poland. Having graduated from the Directing Department of the Polish National Film, Television and Theatre School in Łódź she worked together with Andrzej Wajda, Wojciech Has and Jerzy Skolimowski. Has since 1979 worked as an independent director and screenwriter.
