Orthodox Christian nuns in a Romanian convent. Daily chores and rites of passage. Garden work and prayer. Tomfoolery, intimate discussion and archaic rituals, everyday existence and spirituality. A twenty-four-year-old is waiting for her “wedding” with God. Devotion without the physical urge, for the convent residents a slice of normality. An unobtrusive observation that fluctuates between empathy and respectful distance and portrays the the everyday life of the convent in a cliché-free manner that doesn't deny a certain feeling of alienation vis-à-vis the rituals encountered there.

Anca Hirte - born 1967 in Piatra Neamt, Romania. A graduate of chemistry, she once worked as curator and conservationist at the Museum of the Romanian Peasant. Has worked as a director since 1995.
