Kosovo in the year 2000: inter-ethnic hatred is omnipresent, the Serbian monastery Gračanica, one of the orthodox sanctums of “the cradle of the Serbian nation”, is no exception. Guarded over by KFOR soldiers, here lives the Sister Teodora, who tells a tale of isolation in her own homeland. After having been banished from her previous monastery the sanguine old woman now refuses to speak a word of Albanian. The director is also expected to take a stand: “I arrived in Kosovo soon after the NATO bombing. 'Whose side are you on?' was a question asked by everybody. … Being neutral meant betrayal.“
