A Russian provincial town; Inna experiences puberty caught between the strict gaze of her father and the striving for recognition of her younger brother. At school she befriends Masha, who in turn is suddenly discovered dead; the victim of a mysterious series of murders committed against young women, such as the daughter of the local priest. The latter knows the identity of the murderer, finds himself caught however in a moral dilemma between confessional secret and thoughts of revenge. A disturbing provincial portrait which raises fundamental issues of guilt, punishment and justice.
