The melodrama of a young woman suffering from a malign cerebral tumour who is on the search for adoptive parentsfor her beloved son was shot employing hand-held cameras ä la Trier and suspense a la Lynch. All augmented by the wonderful performance of Maria Shalaeva and her portrayal of the heroine's coming to terms with death. A work reflective of the "new spontaneity" characteristic of modern Russian film.
