A humorous portrait of contemporary society, hosted by the exclusive "Pushkin" restaurant; the meeting place of Moscow's elite. Here the film's principle characters are served by two waiters, who welcome every opportunity to take to the phone in order to discuss their respective relationship problems. Concurrently a drama is played out in the kitchen, where the workforce consists predominantly of immigrant workers from the Caucasus. It wouldn't be unfair to describe this low-budget film as a report on the state of a nation on the eve of the mass protests witnessed on Bolotnaya Square: akin to sitting on a volcano. AP
