Poland in the early nineties; Zyga, an ambitious young man, can't see a future for himself in his small home town on the German-Polish border. He dreams of a life akin to that he knows from American films: Cowboy boots, cars and beautiful girls. In order to come somehow closer to fulfilling his dream Zyga gets involved in the theft of clothing, shoes and electronic goods from a neighbouring German town. This in turn brings him desired respectability on the other side of the border, as Zyga undergoes a transformation into a combination of Robin Hood and the Godfather. That is until he comes to the attention of the police and the Russian mafia...

Piotr Mularuk - born 1966 in Warsaw. Studied literature in his native city and directing at the City University of New York. In addition to his work as a director, Mularuk is also a scriptwriter and producer, for example co-producing Peter Greenaway's NIGHTWATCHING (2007). YUMA is his debut feature film.
