A young city dweller heads to a rural grassland. Far from civilisation he finds himself in a region governed by unspoken laws that are a far cry from the law and order he was hitherto familiar with. And yet he's only here to claim a plot of land he inherited from his grandfather. His intention to sell up sees him cross paths with a ruthless gang of criminals. Blissfully unaware of the danger he finds himself in, it soon turns out that the only person willing and able to take up the fight with the gang and its charismatic leader is the elderly local police chief.
This highly unusual film from Bogdan Mirică, one of the most promising directors to emerge from the Romanian cinema scene in recent years, features an outstanding cast and deservedly took the FIPRESCI-Award at this year's Cannes Film Festival. EG
