Tenderness

Emilia Zielonka
Poland, 2015, 25 Min

Two youngsters behave furtively in a hotel room, as they draw the curtains and lay on the bed. The viewer's first reaction, it's going to happen. With the camera in close proximity to the youngsters' expressions the tension grows. What follows however runs contrary to what the opening scenes lead us to expect.

Presumably there's only one thought guiding them, as the tension grows and yet our first impressions are deceptive. With the girl holed up in the bathroom, a completely different narrative shaped by pain, rejection and a parting of ways unfolds. When all is said and done the tenderness has disappeared, and the nerves are soothed by the sounds of a hang drum emerging from a pedestrian underpass. JG
