Kasia and Ania are apprentices at a hairdresser's and not only have to prepare for an impending exam, but also deal with wearisome parents. Fortunately they are able to provide each other with mutual support in overcoming both hurdles.

Ania is preparing for an upcoming exam. Kasia helps her to prepare, as the friendship between the two proves ever more important in helping the girls to overcome life's hurdles. In Nowa Huta, one of Krakow's poorer districts, the prospects don't look great, and they pair could serve as perfect examples of a futureless youth. Not however in the eyes of director Grzegorz Zariczny! He captures the girls' energy and strength and shows that friendship and human dignity are to be found everywhere. JN/AS
