Pflaumen

The destiny of the Germans in the aftermath of the Second World War is a recurring topic in the work of Czech video artist Mark Ther, and this for a good reason; as a child he learned that his grandparents are Sudeten Germans. Here protagonist Ludwig is also still a child, whose horror at being expelled from his homeland we experience at close quarters. We observe his facial expressions, hear variations in his breathing and heartbeat and catch a glimpse of the white band with the 'N', with which the Germans were marked out for discrimination.
