Peterburg. Tolko po lyubvi

St. Petersburg. A selfie

Avdotia Smirnova, Renata Litvinova, Anna Parmas, Oksana Bychkova, Aksinia Gog, Natalia Nazarova, Natalia Kudryashova
Russia, 2016, 112 Min

These highly personalised narratives were implemented by a collective of seven directors. Taken as a whole they convey the unique atmosphere of the Russian city of Saint Petersburg, renowned the world over for its white nights.

Russian World Vision

Foreign tourists, the presence of whom has helped shaped the image of a city, are familiarised with the famous Anichkov Bridge and its history by a stressed tour guide. Joseph dreams of the staging of a play set in aristocratic Russia, perfectly in tune with the city's rich cultural heritage. Mid-life quests for love that involve a number of obstacles and surprises. The relationship between a mother and daughter is put to the test by the imminent birth of another grandchild, whilst another mother's wish to improve her daughter's lot leads her to let the daughter anonymously join the ranks of a youth choir. A mobile serves as a means of staging suicide with the help of self-portraits, whereas elsewhere in the city love can be found on a miserable morning at the bus stop by pretending to be a deaf-mute (success is not guaranteed).

A beautifully shot declaration of love from seven directors to the city on the Neva. MM
