Adopting the form of a Western comedy, THE LONG RIDE TO SCHOOL narrates the tale of a boy who by means of the depth of his imagination obtains a more self-assured approach to life. Ten-year-old Alex comes to term with his problems in the realm of fiction; namely in the wild West! His adult companion turns out to be his sports teacher, played by Gojko Mitić, who also appears as a tribal chief in parody of his typical portrayal in DEFA Native American film. The film conveys universally valid messages in a remarkably amusing manner.
