Polish director Bartosz M. Kowalski masterfully creates a whole mysterious universe inside the small old villa that houses the nursing home. It functions according to its own laws. During the day, people eat there, take medicine, play cards and reminisce about the past. And at night, when the inhabitants sink into sleep, the door opens into a dark looking-glass, similar to the theater in which Lucjan once played «Hamlet». But is this murky world real? Or is it a figment of the imagination of a man who is gradually preparing to depart this life? NIGHT SILENCE is both a psychological drama about death, which everyone faces alone, and a creepy horror about monsters spawned by mind games. Recognizable details from reality are complemented by a mythological superstructure: the protagonist, like Orpheus, has to overcome many obstacles to get to the kingdom of the dead to his beloved Eurydice. The role of Lucjan was one of the last in the career of the renowned Polish actor Maciej Damięcki, who passed away in 2023.
