ŽivOt a smrt v Tanvaldu

Life and Death in Tanvald

Vít Klusák, Filip Remunda
Czech Republic, 2013, 60 Min
Czech Television

The northern Bohemian provincial town
Tanvald hit the headlines in 2012 in the
Czech Republic: A twenty-two-year-old
Rom, father of two young children, was
shot dead. Whilst some claim it was a case
of self-defence, others are convinced it was
murder. On the search for the truth the directors
return time and again to the scene
of the crime where they come up against
almost unbelievable levels of prejudice and
undisguised racism. The resulting documentary
is part of a new Czech television
format entitled Český Žurnál, whereby the
filmmakers regard themselves as a kind of
documentary response team tasked with
asking uncomfortable questions.
