Vojta Lavićka, a Rom, is a musician, journalist and activist for the rights of his people. The Czech director Helena Třeštíková has followed him for sixteen years, documenting his successful performances as violinist for the band Gipsy.cz, as well as his work for Romany media in the Czech Republic. Alongside his professional activities and assertion of his own identity the film portrays the highs and lows of his complex private life and offers up a complex, multifaceted portrait of the life and times of Roma in contemporary Czech Republic.

Helena Třeštíková - – born 1949 in Prague. Graduated from FAMU, subject documentary film direction. Has made over fifty documentary films, mostly on the themes of human relationships and various social problems. A specialist in the time-lapse method, following people’s life stories on a long-term basis. For her film RENÉ, she was awarded by the European Film Academy for best documentary.
