"Loli Kali Shuba" is a Romani nursery
rhyme about the ladybird. Twenty years on
Ukrainian filmmaker Aleksandr Balagura
returns to the Romani settlement where a
twelve-year-old girl once sang this song to
him. The children of back then have now
grown up. The director depicts a way of life
where the locals celebrate All Saints' Day
and Christmas, children and dogs roam
the streets and religious ceremonies are
complemented by contemporary music,
all the while comparing his old black-andwhite
footage with the reality of today.
